Studio Fundi is a human-centred design studio and consultancy founded in 2021. We have bases of operation in London and Johannesburg.
Our founder, Ricky Stoch, started developing FebriSol during the course of her MA degree at the Royal College of Art in London. As interest in Febrisol grew, so did the demand for Ricky’s multi-faceted approach to consulting. And that’s how Studio Fundi was born.
We are committed to an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving. We value systems thinking and considering problems from multiple perspectives. We’ve seen that magic happens when different people get together in the same room. Our commitment stands firm in everything we do, because we believe that this type of thinking leads to true innovation.
The word fundi is derived from the isiZulu word ‘funda’, meaning ‘read’ or ‘learn’. Continuous learning is an integral part of our philosophy. We strive to learn from research, from clients, and from the needs of our users. By applying what we learn, we aim to help others become Fundis themselves.
Make sure to look into our pro-bono initiative ForTheMany to find out how we give back to our community.
Ricky Stoch is an award-winning human-centred designer and consultant. She specialises in research-based projects at the intersection of Visual Communication and Behavioural Design.
Ricky holds an undergraduate degree in Media and Writing, Digital Media and International Relations, as well as an Honours degree in Transitional Justice—both from the University of Cape Town (South Africa). She also holds an MA in Graphic Design and Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art (London).
Ricky’s design skills are unique as they are informed by her interdisciplinary approach to communication and behavioural change.
Through her work, she aims to solve problems, change behaviour, democratise information, and communicate big ideas that drive positive action. She has a special interest in behavioural solutions for public health, and design that makes a difference in people’s lives.
This is a deep dive into the design process behind the success of FebriSol. Ricky talks about how designing a product that is cheap, accessible, low-tech and scalable can create greater treatment adherence and improve public health outcomes.
The talk demonstrates how a fusion of behaviour design and visual communication rooted in simplicity can transcend cultures and become universally actionable, for good.
